Do Blue Is the Colour of Love — Original Artwork 1/1

SEK 25,000.00

Original mixed-media artwork on a 100 × 70 cm canvas with 40 mm deep edges. Blue Is the Colour of Love explores the growing use of Viagra and other erectile dysfunction medications in a society increasingly focused on sexual performance, expectations and instant solutions.

Originally developed to treat a medical condition, Viagra has also become associated with recreational use, raising questions about the boundaries between medical necessity, personal desire and potential misuse.

The artwork reflects on a culture where sexual performance can become a measure of confidence, masculinity and self-worth. When medication becomes a shortcut to meeting expectations, the distinction between treatment and enhancement begins to blur.

Using the seductive visual language of advertising, the artwork presents a potentially serious subject through vivid colours, bold typography and a playful graphic expression. The attractive surface contrasts with questions about performance pressure, consumption and the pursuit of perfection.

As part of the Do Decay series, Blue Is the Colour of Love invites viewers to reflect on how far we are willing to go to meet expectations — and where the line between use and misuse might lie.

The Creative Process

The artwork began with an initial idea based on wordplay and visual associations, bringing together the image of a rooster and a fried egg in an unexpected relationship.

The initial concept was developed through a series of preliminary sketches exploring typography, composition and different colour combinations. Particular attention was given to the relationship between the photographic elements, their proportions and the surrounding graphic composition.

Several colour studies were developed, experimenting with backgrounds, contrasts and simulated painted colour fields. Different typographic expressions and alternative compositions were compared and rejected before selecting the final arrangement.

The photographic elements were then carefully processed and individually retouched in Photoshop. Adjustments to scale, contrast, positioning and fine details helped refine the relationship between the different elements and prepare the composition for printing.

The black-and-white photographic images were printed directly onto the canvas. Vivid acrylic colours were then applied by hand, transforming the monochrome imagery into a colourful mixed-media artwork.

The entire process, from initial concept and preliminary studies to photography, digital processing, printing and hand painting, involves approximately 20 hours of work.

The result is a unique, one-of-a-kind original artwork combining photography, typography, digital manipulation, printing and traditional acrylic painting.
